Google Nexus 9 release date, price and specs UK: Android Lollipop tablet starts at £319

Google has just announced its HTC-built Nexus 9. Here we provide full details on the release date, price and specs. Also see: and best Android tablets 2014.

Nexus 9 release date

The Nexus 9 will go on sale on 3 November, and will be available to pre-order from 17 October (Friday). It will be available in 29 countries over the coming weeks.

Nexus 9 price

The Nexus 9 is up for pre-order and the 16GB model will cost £319, matching the . Meanwhile the 32GB capacity costs £399.These prices are from as we're still waiting for the Nexus 9 to appear on the Google Play store.

Nexus 9

The Nexus 9, built by HTC and running the latest Android Lollipop, has an 8.9in (2048x1536) IPS LCD screen with a 4:3 rather than 16:9 aspect ratio. Inside is a 2.3GHz nVidia Tegra K1 64-bit quad-core chip, 2GB of RAM, Kepler DX1 GPU and either 16- or 32GB of storage.

HTC BoomSound speakers - as seen in the - offer immersive, distortion-free sound.

The Nexus 9 has a 6700mAh battery, which should be good for around nine hours.

According to Google the Nexus 9 has a soft-grip back and subtle curves, and strikes a balance between easily fitting in your hand, being light and comfortable to use, and big enough for work or play.

Available in black, white and sand (although sand, along with a 4G LTE model, won't be available until later this year), the Nexus 9 has a thin bezel and brushed-metal sides.

A keyboard is sold separately, which snaps to the Nexus 9 via magnets and allows you to alter the typing position. With this keyboard the Nexus 9 is able to compete with both the and the (although a new iPad Air is set to launch tomorrow - see ).

"Since more and more people want to have the same simple experience they have on their tablets when they have to do real work, we designed a keyboard folio that magnetically attaches to the Nexus 9, folds into two different angles and rests securely on your lap like a laptop," said Google in an official blog post.
