Although Android Wear is the new must have system for wearables – now available on the and Samsung Gear Live - it is thought that the Sony SmartWatch 3 won't use the system. Instead it will run its own system.

The previous SmartWatche models from Sony both run on Android but the interface is thought to be greatly different so it's somewhat unclear what the strategy is here.

On the design front, the SmartWatch 3 will allegedly look pretty similar to the SmartWatch 2 with a square form factor. It will still use a transflective screen but the resolution will be 'significantly' higher.

IFA 2014, in Berlin, Germany, is a matter of weeks away so we'll find out more details soon.
